Consortium Big Band is back to entertain you with a mixture of standards and new arrangements of big band swing and jazz. Vocalist Sue Starr will join the band.
The Consortium Big Band is a large jazz orchestra based in Coventry. The band has a full compliment of 20 musician - 5 saxophones, 5 trumpets, 5 trombones and a four piece rhythm section of piano, guitar, bass and drums as well as a female vocalist, Sue Starr. The players themselves are from all walks of musical life, from ex-professionals and semi=professionals to competent amateurs, all fine players.
Primarily a rehearsal band, Consortium's aim is the practice and performance of Big Band Jazz and Swing music repertoire for the education and entertainment of its members. However it does make public appearances throughout the year, having taken part in Coventry's "Band in the Parks" programme and given concerts in the Leamington, Rugby & Coventry areas.
Its repertoire consists mainly of the music and arrangements of the big band masters such as ount Basie, Duke Ellington, Buddy Rich, Stan Kenton, Sammy Nestico and others. Though mainly concentrating on big band jazz the band's library also contains swing music, such as the well known arrangements of Glenn Miller, and even some of the finer songs of the Beatles.
The band meets once per week at the Unicorn Club in Holbrook Lane Coventry
Come and picnic on the Parish Field, and take advantage of the licensed bar.
This is a free concert but donations towards future events will be most welcome.
